Now, Major League Dodgeball is preparing to bring the sport’s top players and teams to the professional stage with Super Dodge, a championship event planned for 2027.
The modern era of organized adult dodgeball gained momentum following the release of the hit movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story in 2004. Inspired by the film, recreational leagues began emerging across North America and around the world. What started largely as a social activity gradually developed into a serious competitive sport, as players refined their skills, teams became more organized, and tournaments attracted increasingly talented athletes.
Two decades later, the transformation is remarkable. Today’s elite dodgeball players possess an extraordinary combination of speed, power, agility, and reflexes. Throws exceeding 70 mph, spectacular Matrix-like dodges, and seemingly impossible catches are now commonplace at the highest levels of competition. The result is a fast-paced, action-packed spectacle that delivers the athleticism, intensity, and drama of professional sports.
